As we begin this broadCAST™, we honor three special days early on, in this very month,

The broadCAST™ is a monthly weigh in by members of The CAST™ of Epic Engage™.  Independent experts in their own right, members of The CAST™  have an opportunity to share their earned insights right here, for you, each month.  With that in mind, we wholeheartedly encourage you to connect with these experts on their respective expertise and how it might be of service to you.  They each bring such great value in service to their work in communications, youth engagement, education, compassion, business, health, leadership and more

July 2017

With the above in heart and mind, the theme for The CAST™ in July was:

  • Dominion, often defined as the right of governing.
  • Independence, often defined as freedom from the control of others.

They can also both be, and are, virtues; strengths of character.  Dominion over oneself is a form of discernment, detachment, discipline and decisiveness.  Independence is based on our healthy truthfulness, assertiveness and integrity.

So, with July comes Dominion (Canada) Day and Independence Day in North America.  If Dominion and Independence are virtues, and they are… based on your expertise and personal experience… what is one thought you might have about taking charge of one’s life in a way to create the life we best desire?

Now, before we go further… unfortunately, and due to life matters, we are truly missing new contributions from Krista Walsh and Mark Black this month.  I know that they send their best wishes, however you celebrate and honor these days… and we have chosen to do a retro recall on each for this month, in line with the question for the month.

So, in essence…

What is one thought you might have about taking charge of one’s life in a way to create the life we best desire?

The responses were varied and cool.

Engage and enjoy. 🙂

RAY HOLLISTER SAYS

My thoughts about taking charge of your life with regards to these two virtues is simple: take neither Dominion nor Independence for granted!  The very virtues we argue and fight over within government are also applicable to our daily life.  So, I submit to you that we must practice and learn to govern our actions in such a way that we magnify the independence of those around us while simultaneously encouraging growth and prosperity for all.  By focusing our efforts on others, the rewards that come back to us will be magnified and intensified with the same enthusiasm and effort that we put forth.  Rise!

Ray Hollister is all about strength, excellence and potential. In fact, he has a very special connection raywith students – he’s helped thousands achieve average scores of over 90% for 20 years! His love of learning… and his ability to teach anybody the same easy strategies he used to study far less than everyone else while maintaining outrageously high test scores… quickly earned him a lot of ‘friends’ seeking his advice. Ray has personally conducted numerous studies to develop an intense, focused, and  results oriented program for college students. With the success of that program, Ray set his sights on helping younger students in Junior High, High School, and those just entering University. The end result is a program that will help any student – especially YOU – learn more, study less, and earn consistently high grades.  www.rayhollister.net

LIZ BURT SAYS

I’ve been thinking about the topics of dominion versus independence all month, and in my mind it relates to being a leader versus a follower. I think the wisest people, and best leaders, know when to follow their own intuition and expertise… yet also know when to let others step up and take the lead. They know it takes the ability to listen to others and bring together the strengths of the group to garner the best results. In fact, the best leaders know that, overall, they won’t always have all of the answers… and the best approach could be to seek the experience and advice of their peers.  To bring this back to using these virtues to create a great life, we should focus on our strengths and hone our skills, yet also know when to look to experts for the tough questions and help us in areas where we are less experienced. This is neither dominion nor independence, but rather the best of both worlds.  🙂

Liz Burt is about real and healthy results.  She is a master motivator. She is also a marathoner and marketing specialist living in Calgary, AB. She holds a three-year diploma in Business Management and Marketing, a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, and will begin her MA at the University of Alberta this spring. In addition to being wild about learning and running, Liz is also an avid traveller and has backpacked through twenty countries in the last few years. In her professional life she loves working with small businesses to develop simple and effective marketing and communications plans that achieve real results. She is creative, a bit of a health nut and loves to share her healthy passions in her blog. Liz is a goal setter and risk taker. She loves coffee, cooking, and great conversations. She gets huge joy in helping people and small businesses achieve their goals and are always ready to lend an ear and share advice. www.soundbodysoundmind.wordpress.com

MARK BLACK SAYS

Mark, we miss you this month but I looooved this around claiming what we do by putting love into it; and I quote.

When we love what we do it is beneficial for everyone. You enjoy your work more, those who work with you do as well. And if you serve clients or customers, they will benefit as well.  I think it’s important to distinguish what we mean by loving your work however: it’s often said that if you love what you do, you never “work” a day in your life. I don’t buy that. It implies that loving what you do is a passive act – you love or hate your job because of the job and not because of you. Rather, I believe how much you love your job is the result of how much love you put INTO it.

Mark Black, CSP is all about wellness and resilience.  He is a Heart blackand Double-Lung Transplant Recipient, 4-time marathoner, resilience expert, speaker, and coach. Mark helps people “Thrive in Challenging Times”. A Certified Speaking Professional, Mark has inspired more than 100,000 people in more than 350 presentations. At 23 Mark faced an unimaginable challenge. His doctor informed him that his heart was failing. Without a rare and dangerous heart and double-lung transplant he would not see his 25th birthday. Three years later, after receiving his second chance at life, Mark ran his first marathon. Mark spends his free time with his beautiful wife and two kids.  www.markblack.ca

SHEENA GROBB SAYS

Before you charge full steam ahead in the world, take time to understand your values and dreams fully, independent of outside influence. Be conscious of the deep inner whisper of your heart, because it is this voice alone that will lead you towards a deeper fulfillment in your own life.  Accept and embrace exactly who you are and how you might do things differently from others.  This is where true dominion and independence exists, and it’s more creative than you might think!

Sheena Grobb Singer/Songwriter and Speaker… is humbly amazing. “It is without a doubt a masterpiece of songwriting and soundscape. Really incredible, soulful music. She will definitely get a huge audience in time, trust me.” Alex Wharton, Abbey Road Studios. JAMIE McCABE SAYS

We are the creator of our own lives. We chose our reactions and, at each cross road, we pick a direction and a lane to move forward in.  We hold all the power to create what we desire. While just wishing and wanting isn’t enough to move you ahead in life, your actions and reactions are. Being in the creative field, I recognize and appreciate the individuality we all hold within us and encourage and inspire us all to be authentic, passionate and caring to ourselves and others. Be YOU and happiness follows.

JM2Jamie McCabe is all about creativity and connection. She is on a mission to bring people together through art and exploring their creative side at Clay Café Avalon. Jamie became an entrepreneur and opened the paint-your-own pottery studio in 2008 and has seen many memories painted there since then. She works with children and schools where she provides after school art programs. She believes we should color outside the lines more and embrace our inner artist. At Clay Café, it’s not about painting the perfect piece, it’s about painting the perfect memory.  www.claycafeavalon.ca

BARRY LEWIS GREEN SAYS

For me, Humble Swagger™ is all about Dominion and Independence, nobly manifested.  Here I suggest 4 ways to claim it.  Indeed, they have played a role in my latest news on the road back to health.

Barry Lewis Green is ultimately a vocalist, strength coach and educator. His work is about voicing, exploring, identifying, practicing and mastering our strengths and building upon them through practical and powerful unity and resourcefulness.  His book Human Being Being Being Human speaks to that.  and that is why Barry is The Unity Guy™. EPIC Engage™ is an extension of The Unity Guy™. The Epic work is all about building strong, united and inspired cultures lead by character… at school, work and community; where everyone matters and contributes everyday. www.epicengage.com

QUOTE of the MONTH

So we have honored Dominion and Independence.  Then there is Memorial Day.  Memorial is a form of honor, and here is a quote that might link to all three concepts and days this month.

“If anything can, it is memory that will save humanity. For me, hope without memory is like memory without hope.” — Elie Wiesel
