Leader ToC™ is back, after a bit of a hiatus.  With our last edition back in July… with Trent Langdon, we had compiled some 13 (a baker’s dozen apparently) viewpoints on leadership and character… from around the world.  Within that post, you can find links to all 13 to date.

This month, with our new iteration of editions about to launch and now eight in the series of Leader ToC™ Blog Posts for 2017, we are thrilled to have another member of our C.A.S.T.™ contribute to the conversation around leadership and character at Leader ToC™… the fabulous Jamie McCabe.

We hope you engage and enjoy.

INTRODUCING Jamie McCabe

Jamie is wonderful.  And I mean wonder-FULL.  She is a highly creative soul, with a passion for same.  I am pumped to have her join us this month.  Here is a little on Jamie.

Jamie McCabe is all about creativity and connection. She is on a mission to bring people together through art and exploring their creative side at Clay Café Avalon. Jamie became an entrepreneur and opened the paint-your-own pottery studio in 2008 and has seen many memories painted there since then. She works with children and schools where she provides after school art programs. She believes we should color outside the lines more and embrace our inner artist. At Clay Café, it’s not about painting the perfect piece, it’s about painting the perfect memory.  www.claycafeavalon.ca

So, let us…

Engage the Leader ToC™

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

Hi Jamie.  Thank you so much for joining us in the conversation we call Leader ToC™.  I am very much looking forward to your perspectives today.  To start, I typically askWho are you and what is it you do?”… so let us begin there, if you will.

JAMIE McCABE

Thank you Barry, and it is my pleasure.  Hello Everyone! My name is Jamie McCabe and I own Clay Café Avalon.  And yes, I am always this excited to meet people and talk about Clay Café.  What is it I do?  I like to think that my bright, fun space provides a creative outlet that inspires people to connect with their inner artist and or connect with their family and friends through art. There’s nothing better than painting the perfect memory.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

That enthusiasm and joyfulness is palpable.  You simply bring it.  🙂  And, it is infectious; in the best of ways. With that in mind, for whom do you do it best? In other words… who is your best audience?

JAMIE McCABE

Great question Barry.  Our audience is full of people who want to connect, create and have fun! In a world where we are more connected than ever, I feel that we may be more disconnected than we think. That’s why it’s so important in our busy lives to take a break and have a little fun, recharge and connect with those who matter most to us.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

So very true.  Big time.  We are connected, and yet not… it seems far too often.  So, your audience is seemingly across all demographics but are united in that they seek to to connect, create and have fun.  I love it.  How is it you best serve them? How do you offer your services?

JAMIE McCABE

Well, we have an array of creative and fun classes to attend. We have pottery wheel classes, parent and child classes, kids night out, splatter nights, clay sculpting classes, after school art, drawing programs, paint nights (we call them cork and canvas), glass workshops and much more! We have group bookings, team building and walk ins are welcome of course.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

Clearly, you are speaking to all ages and so many demographics… again with the collective interest in creativity, connection and fun.  With that kind of diversity of audience, I am eager to ask… “What are the challenges and opportunities of leadership, from your perspective and experience?”

JAMIE McCABE

Barry, being the leader for me… the challenges I have are staying focused and organized when there are so many fun things I want to do for my business. We also have endless opportunities for growth, that I am just so excited! Indeed, we have a few ideas up our sleeves for the new year. With being the leader of new ideas and projects comes the challenges of (1) experimenting with whether or not it is something people would enjoy doing, and (2) when is the best day of the week to do it… and time. The test runs and being organized enough that our workshops are planned so far in advance… so that our supplies arrive on time… and we have our samples done up for display long before the classes; these are challenges. We are slowly leaping into our leadership groove. ( I just need a few more extra hours in the day haha)

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

I am hearing that a balance of Zeal and Orderliness is necessary.  You noted focus and organization.  You have such Zeal, and get so much done with it.  It is impressive.  I am hearing staying on top of the necessary structure is vital too.  So, when reflecting on the strengths of leadership, what virtues do you consider to be paramount as strengths of character and why do you believe them vital?

JAMIE McCABE

I lead by example. I am compassionate, kind and inspiring. I try to be someone people look up to, yet can come to with any questions or suggestions because without those, we can’t grow. I am down to earth and I trust myself and my decisions. I love sharing my knowledge with other business owners and I love being part of helping others grow. Therefore, I feel that inspiring others, leading by example and sharing knowledge is key to being a great leader.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

You powerfully remind me of the importance of Compassion, Kindness, Zeal, Friendliness, Humility, Trustworthiness, Confidence, Generosity, Cooperation and much more.  And, leading by example speaks to me of Integrity.  Fabulous.  I do love it Jamie.  So, what is one piece of advice you might have for our readership on developing leadership and strength of character in these times?

JAMIE McCABE

There are some great books out there and also great companies that can help you to grow into your leadership roles.  A few of my favorite books are Fish, Double Double, Hug Your Customers and E-Myth to name a few. I recently worked with Susan Murray from Clearpath Leadership to assist with creating great team meetings and teaching us about BHAG. Big Hairy Audacious Goals. Reach for the stars and bring all those with you that wish to join in…

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

And never stop learning.  I very much hear you.  Openness, Discernment, Creativity and Wisdom… all.  This is a journey; not a destination.  🙂  With all of this in mind, how can someone connect with you for more information on your work?

JAMIE McCABE

Absolutely.  Barry, anyone can contact me any time at info@claycafeavalon.ca and I suggest that everyone be sure to check out our NEW website at www.claycafeavalon.ca.  I look forward to hearing from you.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

Perfect.  Will check it out myself; and encourage all reading our post here to do the same.  Jamie, it has not surprisingly been a true pleasure.  Thank you for your time and your passion.

JAMIE McCABE

It has been fun!  Thank you Barry for the opportunity.
