Change is coming in 2018.  To date, we have published some 332 posts under The Epic Blog name; right here.  Personally, I chose The Epic Blog as a name to somehow “fit” with the Epic Engage™ branding.  Truthfully, I always struggled with the name as it implied the blog was epic.  What it has been is a series of thoughts around character education and leadership; and it will continue to be so; sincerely offered.

That being said, of late I have been documenting my own road back to full health and strength after stroke with the latest installment from last week being Wayfarer 8.0 .  This past week has seen continued and consistent progress with almost 80,000 steps already in over the last 5 days.  Essentially, this journey is an application and practice of character; employing Cooperation with my new and supportive team online, Discipline with my consistency… and Joyfulness in how I have created the space to do the work necessary. The success, present and continuing, will be founded and grounded in the practice of character.  Great and consistent and reliable behaviour and action is grounded so.

With that all in mind, going forward this will be Barry’s Blog; a humble offering around observations, thoughts and ideas with respect to character leadership and education on the ground in real time and real world.

Just this past week, Christmas Day in fact… I came across this on new conversations in the classroom. As a business educator myself, I strongly and humbly suggest a read; whether you are an entrepreneur, educator or emerging leader.  It references ethics and values… but I would suggest that we are talking matters of character.  Issues of harassment, justice and success in the marketplace alike… they demand character.  They demand stronger senses of fairness, empathy, discipline, trust, trustworthiness, courage, excellence, honesty, commitment, understanding, and so much more.  Read the article and consider, for yourself, what strengths of character are demanded at school, work, business and community… going forward.  Such reflection matters now, more than ever.

Right here, each week, we will look at the world and our corners of it … and explore the vital importance of the faces of character… some 101 and counting virtues that set us up for sustainable strength and success.  This will not be kumbaya (nothing wrong with that but it won’t be that).  This will be real … real time, real world… exploring the nuances of character and how to build cultures grounded in same.

If you are an educator, entrepreneur or emerging leader… I say to you that we will take a few minutes each week and give it real take-away value.  Hope you join me.
