On February 18, ahead of my 6-3 Birthday, I posted Thoughts on Yielding. Now, 20 days later, and amidst The Fast, I am taking stock on my own most recent practice of Yielding.

In that last blog, I noted that I saw a post from Joe Calloway on LinkedIn, sharing these words from Arnold Bennett… “The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.”

We cannot waste time in advance. Indeed and in deed. My own practice of Yielding over these last few weeks (and especially since the commencement of The Fast) … has seen considerable moments of both letting go and seizing hold… of the Virtues and forces of both Detachment and Initiative. Decisions have been made on path forward into Next Chapter. Establishing my own renewed personal WEaLTH (When Excellence and Love Take Hold) Plan, an application submitted for Service in Haifa, re-engineering on my work, and upping the regime around my new love for Boxing… they have all involved both letting go and seizing hold; and knowing my BIG ROCKS… and Hell Yeah stuff.

This Week, I took another little trip to The Spear, and felt Detachment and Initiative in my bones; in my Soul. The blueness of ocean and water… its depth and breadth… in combination with decisions made… brought a deeper understanding of my own personal sense of Just Cause and meaning and the two Virtues in powerful combination. Letting go and GOING… towards what matters most to me.

I have the good fortune to work alongside some remarkable people. I have the good fortune of my teaching that I love and my work and Service… I adore. That said, and going forward, much will be kept, some will be let go, and still more will be met and taken on. I will live SLOWER and care ever better… and explore ever more on Generosity. And, on Character and Purpose and Unity. My thought, at this time, is that we each take conscious inventory of our keepers, leapers and deepers. I humbly offer up that we consider and inventory that which we will keep hold of strongly, leap away from as it no longer serves nor connects, and move more deeply into going forward. What matters most to you still? What no longer does? And what calls to you? Detachment and Initiative can help us soar and build our Vision.

“Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

Human greatness does not lie in wealth or power, but in character and goodness. People are just people, and all people have faults and shortcomings, but all of us are born with a basic goodness. ― Anne Frank
