This month, with our fifth in the series of Leader ToC™ Blog Posts for 2017, we interview the wonderful Sheena Grobb.  Sheena is a colleague in CAPS, with an incredible talent for songwriting and messaging on what matters most in life; living.  She is also a friend.  I am truly excited to have her join the conversation around leadership and character at Leader ToC™.

That being said, Leader ToC™ (Thoughts on Character) itself is our monthly series engaging leaders around the world on character, leadership and more.  Before we actually get started this month, here are:

… if you wish to catch up.  This is our eleventh issue, with more to come.  We are thankful, and look forward to continuing the learning journey; and having you with us.  We hope you engage and enjoy.

INTRODUCING SHEENA GROBB

Sheena is one of the members of The CAST™… and always brings considered and mindful thoughts to her contributions with the broadCAST™, our monthly collective blog post.  We are blessed to have her perspectives.  Here is just a little of what we know of Sheena.

Sheena Grobb is about compassion.  A songbird from the age of two, songwriter at ten, with 3 albums under her belt, a nomination for the Western Canadian Music Awards, and Sheenaover 500 tour dates across Canada, the US, and the UK, Sheena Grobb (one of Canada’s best kept secrets) is spilling over. With the release of her newest album, The Breakless Heart, mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London, and a life changing music video created by Lindsey Nelko (past choreographer with So You Think You Can Dance), Sheena is embarking on her most meaningful project yet – The Living Compassion Project™ – inviting others to “unlock their lives” through sharing their stories… as she shares hers.

So, let’s get at it to …

Engage the Leader ToC™

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

Hi Sheena.  It is wonderful to have you on board with Leader ToC™.  Thank you so much for joining us.

SHEENA GROBB

Hi Barry!  I’m grateful to be chatting with you.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

Fantastic!  So, let’s get started.  For our readership and for me getting an even better sense… who are you and what is it you do?

SHEENA GROBB

Essentially, I am a Singer Songwriter, Speaker, and Health Coach.  I use music and emotional processing to help people connect more deeply with themselves so they can feel more authentic, heart centered, and present in their work and relationships.   I would say I’m a caring and compassionate person… who has been through the lessons I teach… and I love to see others find a deeper fulfillment in the way they’re living their lives and interacting in their relationships.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

That was certainly my first impression and experience when I first saw and heard you perform.  I still remember the presence of that moment.  You captivated a room full of leaders with your authenticity and insight.  With that in mind, for whom do you do this work best?  In other words, who is your best audience?

SHEENA GROBB

My best audience tends to be teachers and other professionals in emotionally complex work environments.  I’m also dedicated to supporting individuals struggling with stress related illness, as well as anyone looking to feel more connected in their relationships at work and at home.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

Fabulous and very focused.  There is such clarity in that.  Then, how do you best serve them in doing so?  How do you offer your services?

SHEENA GROBB

As a speaker, I now offer seminars to share a bit about my personal story and what influenced me to begin looking seriously at my emotional health… how not having the tools to understand, express and resolve my feelings was impacting my health, my work, and my relationships.  For anyone interested in working more closely, I offer a 6 month intensive program where they can develop the tools – and learn the skills – required to interact in an emotionally healthy and fully integrated way… tools and skills we all should have been taught in school!

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

Oh, I hear that!  As an educator, I surely do.  That work is much needed.  With that in mind. and based on your work over the years… in these times, what are the challenges and opportunities of leadership… from your perspective and experience?

SHEENA GROBB

One of the biggest challenges I see is how developed and outwardly successful many people can become – financially, academically, etc – WITHOUT tending to their emotional health.  But then through illness, divorce, significant loss, stress at work, or other natural life occurrences we all ultimately face, they don’t have the tools to deal with it all in a healthy or authentic way.  But we can all learn to pick up some of those pieces… we all have the capacity to learn and strengthen parts of ourselves we were never taught to nurture.  There is great opportunity for each and every one of us.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

That is so incredibly important in these times; to find our best and most healthy balance.  So, when considering the strengths of leadership as they might relate to character… what virtues do you consider to be paramount as strengths and why do you believe them vital?

SHEENA GROBB

I see the virtues of Courage and Compassion to be essential.  Courage to look at ourselves with honesty and vulnerability… and Compassion for what we might find.  We are all human.  Some people will spend a lifetime running away from who they really are… because of some impression they took in very young, or because they’ve forgotten themselves.  It’s one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever seen to witness another person remember who they really are.  It’s why I do what I do.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

I love that… I sooo love that…. two wings… courage and compassion.  The courage to explore and the compassion to accept what we find.  Given that, what is one piece of advice you might have for our readership on developing leadership and strength of character in these times?

SHEENA GROBB

Sit quietly with yourself often.  Develop an awareness of your body and what you feel. Find a way to be truthful and honest with yourself always… your feelings follow a different set of rules. Acknowledging them doesn’t necessarily make them true, but your experience is worth honouring.  For a fully integrated and healthy human existence, it’s essential.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

Indeed, it is the good and noble cause; our humanity.  I love the work you are doing.  So, how can someone connect with you for more information on your work?

SHEENA GROBB

The best way to get more information is to book a free 30 minute phone consultation with me.  In that time, I can hear a bit about you, I will explain a bit about what I offer… there’s never any obligation to work with me, and we can decide together what options might work best moving forward.  Email me directly at sheena@sheenagrobb.com.

BARRY LEWIS GREEN

I encourage anyone to connect with Sheena.  She is the real deal.  Real compassion and courage.  Thank you so much Sheena.  This chat has been wonderful.  I am so glad we had the chance.

SHEENA GROBB
