That First Virtue

Last week, I shared on a new virtue I am exploring; Audacity. This week, with day surgery tomorrow, the College year commencing Wednesday and plans around health and a new website in the offing, I am reminded of the first virtue I ever heard of…

It also happens to be the virtue for today in my 10-day challenge… ahead of Peacefulness and Perceptiveness, Tuesday and Wednesday. I will closing out the week, resting from surgery while preparing for the College year in healthy balance. Patience will be part of that. Then, Thursday through Sunday (a new 4 day challenge while I rest and recharge) will be about…

But, I digress. Patience is more than we often think it to be. It is a quiet Strength, Trust, Hope and Confidence. It speaks to the Infinite Game, and I feel it is time to go back and really study and practice this one. With the news of the passing of Sir Ken Robinson, I am reminded of both his inspiration and the need to continue the work he inspired. Patience breeds Optimism and visa versa. Rome was not built in a day, but it was built.

How does Patience speak to you?

And while you are pondering same, maybe check out TUGtv.

Peace, passion and prosperity…

Audacity, Primed

In 5 to Thrive, I shared on Candor, Daring, Dominion, Soulfulness and Wholeheartedness… and said, “These five I intend to deepen in over the next few weeks and ahead of a new College year. I believe and contend they are Virtues that expect a deeper dive, sacrificing everything else for everything truly desired.” Well, in so doing, I conversed and reflected and crafted on another…

In many ways, it encompasses the earlier 5. For me, on this 5th anniversary of my stroke, I am reminded of the lessons that came that year on living a life closer to the bone. On August 19, 2015 I did not know that which was coming. August 20 of that year, I heard the news. I was dumbfounded. Blessed with few physical challenges, my brain did have work to do, and I did have a year off… and time in CT Scans and MRIs, and thinking upon my life forward. It was both challenge and opportunity, but that is another story. I am reminded this day that there is still work to do.

I have commissioned a new website to ever better reflect that, and I am re-committed to bringing such to my teaching in this my 26th year. I have a 6 month wellness program starting in September, and I am redefining my personal life. That said, today, I am reflecting on this virtue. My thought is, “How can the wind not be the wind?” It cannot. To be our truest requires Courage, Honesty, Truthfulness, Candor, Daring, Dominion, Soulfulness and Wholeheartedness… and Audacity. My stroke reminds me that there is still work to do on building that city. To do that, here are some QUESTIONS upon which I am reflecting.

  • At core, who am I? What matters most to me in living, being and doing this one life I know that I have?
  • How can I fully accept that?
  • How can I be most responsible in living it, and for whom?
  • How can I best express that to the world in countenance and gate?
  • How can I best align my spirit, thought, will and action?
  • What will that all look like in living my life?
  • What matters most in doing any of that?

I am asking myself these today on Day 3 of a 10-Day Challenge…. with today being on Modesty.

Comfortable being who I am relies on me having an ever better sense of who that is, and owning it. 95% needs to advance towards 100%.

I intend to explore these questions.

How about you?

5 to Thrive

In I Choose, I shared … “I am reminded. Fewer projects. More love for the ones I keep. Success not defined by anything other than simple, joyful purpose. Impact. Impact with one person. Or thousands. It matters not. Impact matters. The Endgame, my endgame is simple. This life is mine, outlier with a love for humanity.” I am talking my own sense of Integrity.

I am now in the midst of launching into a vacay, desired and (I think) deserved… and one to find my own new order if you will…

… and so I write this blog post prematurely this week. I also write this hot on the heels of a second session with aspiring Virtues Project Facilitators. For them, and for me, going into this week… I offer 5 virtues around which I also intend to explore, to simply thrive.

They are the five I added in ROCK 105.

These five I intend to deepen in over the next few weeks and ahead of a new College year. I believe and contend they are Virtues that expect a deeper dive, sacrificing everything else for everything truly desired.

Explore if you like and dare. See you on the other side. 😉

I Choose

Yesterday I posted on Facebook…

  • “Why Mr. Anderson do you persist?”
  • “Because I choose to…”
    • from The Matrix: Revolutions

5 years ago August 20, 2015, I experienced my stroke. In those following days laying in the CT SCANS and MRIs, I had the thought, “What if I have only 90 days?”

I did not know what was going on inside my head and physical tests were showing no real answers as to why. But each time I lay in those scans and asked that question …. the same answers… all about the kind of meaning I deeply wanted.

Deal breakers.

Since that time, I have realized some of that meaning. But I have slid that slippery slope of assumption too… assumption that I will get around to it. Today, I was reminded.

Broken deal.

My spirit nudged me with a loving sledgehammer. I am done with arbitrary definitions of “success” and the subtle and not so subtle messages out there of same. Success systems and hustle mean nothing to me. Nothing. My work is born of a love for the work. Service. Educator. Entrepreneur. Yes, for life. But with meaning over metrics… with purpose over positioning. With soul over systems.

I have heard of people I deeply respect making significant changes of late, and I am there. You inspire me. I am so there. ❤

New habits. Earlier to bed. Earlier to rise. Living cleaner.

Healthier. Simpler. Less to do, more to do in the less.

Simplicity. Focus. Detachment. Decisiveness.

I ain’t playing the arbitrary game. I ain’t doing what I “should”. I am doing what soulfully calls. I have long felt like an outlier, a man without a country and free agent. No children, nor parents… and a “weirdness” since a kid…

In some ways I have never fought it. In other ways, I have. No more.

I know my work. I know my joy. I know my Soul. And I know my mind, body and spirit are wanting to listen to it.

All of this is to say I am giving up. I am giving up any arbitrary labels. I am giving up industry norms and guidance around revenue streams and models. I never liked any of it anyway.

Conforming. Boring.

My work is a spiritual enterprise. ❤ My value will be forged by what I do and how well I do it. I will not chase the shiny bobbles. I will chase life work, soul work… loving what I do and doing what I love. ❤

I will understand that my mind, body, spirit and Soul only want what impact I can have in this world with what matters most.Humanity over inhumanity. Optimism over positivity. Dance. Song. Creating. Serving.

Why am I saying all of this?

My mind and body today were squirming. Remembering the stroke and the learnings back then. Remembering answers of… Simplicity. Joyfulness. Purposefulness. They are resounding.

This week, I have two wonderful sessions that fit said bill. Indeed, much of my life is already in alignment with such. Now, more so.

Fierce and fun.

No more icky.

Life is too short and important.

I am reminded.

Fewer projects. More love for the ones I keep. Success not defined by anything other than simple, joyful purpose. Impact. Impact with one person. Or thousands. It matters not. Impact matters.

The Endgame, my endgame is simple. This life is mine, outlier with a love for humanity.

Alignment is healthy. Find it. ❤

The rest is about keeping your promise to yourself in living it.

My mind, body and spirit shook me today and reminded me.

That stream of thought continues today and so does a healthy sense of freakin’ alignment. My point with this blog? Our Soul knows best. Listen…. and be your own best friend.

I chose to…

… with assured step.

Peace, passion and prosperity…
