Check In and Conclude

Taking stock and wrapping up is important.  Last week, I wrote about keeping on keeping on.  This week, amidst meetings with passionate entrepreneurs, and the close of my College year, I am reminded that moving forward often times requires us to close on some things.  In order to start new chapters, we must conclude old ones.  In order to start new tasks, we must wrap up others.  It is hard, but necessary.

I am reminded that, far too often, our busy-ness does not get things actually done.  We spread ourselves so thin, getting little bits of everything done… with no real sense of accomplishment.  This is both counter productive and discouraging.

This week is that week that I do a mid year check in.  I am finished my College year… and Canada Day is July 1.  Formerly known as Dominion Day, I take this lead up to Canada Day as a time to stake my own true Dominion; that over which I actually do have control.  This is a time to clue up projects that need conclusion; and to clear the table for the balance of the year.  As part of my 20022020 Vision, here is what I am cluing up between now and July 1.

  • Getting my weigh scales, gym and Panda ready for a Summer of full on wellness, including my first ground setting meeting with a nutritionist Friday… all towards that 36” Waist, Lean and Strong.
  • Setting my schedule for LEARNING this Summer:
    • MBa – Character Leadership and Unity Building
    • Mandarin and French
    • Ruhi Intensive
  • Preliminary PLANNING for CNA and MUN into Fall 2019.
  • Developing my 5 Year W.E.A.L.T.H. Plan for 2019-24.
  • Re-engineering the Epic Engage™ website, including a schedule of project plans.

This will happen from Wednesday, June 26 through Sunday, June 30… 5 days.  And on Canada Day, I rest.  There will be such a feeling of accomplishment, and a sense of setting the foundation for a much needed Summer.  My thought to you is this.  As we head into July 1, halfway through 2019, identify what do you need to conclude and put to bed… then do that.

I think this is important as it helps with focus and Zeal… and with making decisions regarding career, and more.  Clearing the table and erasing the whiteboard open up possibilities.  Do that.

Peace, passion and prosperity…

Last week, I wrote on KEEP WALKING.  I was first tempted to call this blog KEEP ON, KEEPING ON.  In fact, I will … and have.

I am making progress on my waistline; one inch down… and feeling good.  Now, I keep moving.  I keep going.  Steadfastness is a virtue.  I call it Determination on steroids.  You cannot stop Steadfast.  Combine that with Flexibility and you have the power of water.  Try stopping it.  If you dam it up, it will seep into the land or evaporate and still finds its way back to the ocean.  No wonder that Bruce Lee suggested that we be like water.

In conversation yesterday with a soon-to-be new contributor to our broadCAST Team, Kathy Noseworthy, we were talking about her interest in, and passion for, active living.  She suggested that it is important to find the types of activities you enjoy.  I believe I first heard Covert Bailey in the 90s reference same.  Personality, temperament, and character must be accounted for in choosing activities for active living.

Please do not suggest I sit on a stationary bike or walk a treadmill.  For my temperament…. booooring.  I need variety and change, regularly so.  My home based gym is set up for such.  So is Salsa dancing.  Salsa will be a primary thrust for this Summer as I loooove it, and have time to do it.  My intent is to get back into a lifestyle of dance; the more varied the better.  Plus there is choosing different weekly hikes.  Variety.  Change. Diversity.  For me, it is vital.

It would be best for me to keep it simple and flexible, deciding that I will be active 1-2 hours a day, whatever that activity… and deciding I will eat healthy but have a variety of simple and easy solutions in the house, from which to choose.

Consider your temperament.  What types of physical activity best fits.  Team sports?  Gym work? Hiking?  Dancing?  Running?  Swimming?  Else?  As has been noted to me, the best exercise you can do is the one you truly enjoy.  I am sure this can also be said for food preferences.  I am in the process, with a gypsy summer ahead, to find my best and most fun practices for eating and exercise.  I am going to go back to the SLOWER model (see the free eBook here) and determine and design my best patterns for:

I am going to determine and design what best and naturally works for my temperament which is Dreamer-Connector-Mover-Thinker-Builder in that order.  Dreamers are driven by vision.  Connectors are driven by feeling.  Movers are driven by action.  Thinkers are driven by logic. Builders are driven by structure.  We have all five in us, but our ingredients of each differ in combination.  For the Dreamer-Connector-Mover-Thinker-Builder in me, I know what will honor my spirit for eating and exercise… with a sense of daily vision, allowing myself to experience joy, and acting on it.  I less need science or structure.  Simple and active will drive my gypsy summer.

How about you?

Time to keep on, keeping on.

Keep Walking

Last week, I wrote on GROWTHeries, CDs and Problem Solving.  This week, I have little to add except I feel a slimming happening, and I am 8 days away from my first milestone of 44″ waist.  I am excited.  I am working towards my vision.

In so doing, I reference this collection of thoughts heading into Summer… for my own inspiration, ideas and initiative.

We keep walking.  🙂

GROWTHeries, CDs and Problem Solving

Last week, I shared on my GROWTHery List.  It is my Summer plan.  Today, I share my 20020202 Vision in visual form.  The former is the beginning of a 9 month process (and a continuation of the original year long process set in February).  The latter is the intended  culmination of that process.

The technical definition of a problem is the discrepancy between an existing state and a desired state.  In other words, it is the difference between where we are and where we want to be.

By establishing this current GROWTHery List, I have established new starting points.  By referencing my CD (commitment declaration lol), I have established my desired state.  Now, it is time for execution.

Consider where you are and where you need to be.  Get specific.  Then determine a plan to get your there. Get specific there too. Dream the plan and plan the dream.

Whether we are talking leadership, education or entrepreneurship at school, work, business and community… or life and family… whether we are talking career or health… get fierce with it. And, keep it simple.

Peace, passion and prosperity…
